Myron Virgil George (born January 6, 1900 in Erie , Kansas , † April 11, 1972 in Parsons , Kansas) was an American politician . Between 1950 and 1959 he represented the third constituency of the state of Kansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Myron George attended his homeland public schools and then Labette County High School in Altamont . During the First World War he was a corporal in the US Army . After the end of his military service in May 1919, he did an apprenticeship as a printer with the newspaper "Altamont Journal", which belonged to his father. Between 1924 and 1941 George was the publisher and editor of the newspaper "Edna Sun". From 1939 to 1950 he was also a member of the Kansas Highway Commission .

Politically, George was a member of the Republican Party . After the death of Congressman Herbert Alton Meyer , he was elected as his successor in Congress in 1950 in a by- election. On the same day, the regular congressional elections took place, in which George was elected for the next legislature. After he was confirmed in 1952, 1954 and 1956, respectively, he could remain in Congress between November 7, 1950 and January 3, 1959. In the elections of 1958 he was defeated by the Denver Democrat David Hargis .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, he worked in public relations for the transportation and construction industries. Myron George died on April 11, 1972 in Parsons.
