William A. Reeder

William Augustus Reeder (born August 28, 1849 in Shippensburg , Cumberland County , Pennsylvania , † November 7, 1929 in Beverly Hills , California ) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1911 he represented the sixth constituency of the state of Kansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1853, William Reeder and his parents moved to Ipava , Fulton County , Illinois . There he attended public schools. Between 1863 and 1871 he taught himself as a teacher in Illinois. In 1871 he moved to Beloit , Mitchell County , Kansas. There he was from 1871 to 1879 main teacher in the public schools. After moving to Logan , Phillips County , in 1880 , he worked in the banking industry. Between 1891 and 1901 he was also interested in agriculture and especially in agriculture with the help of irrigation systems.

Politically, Reeder was a member of the Republican Party . In 1898 he was elected as their candidate in the sixth district of Kansas to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Nelson B. McCormick on March 4, 1899 . After five re-elections, Reeder was able to complete six legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1911 . Between 1901 and 1907 he was chairman of the Committee on Mileage and from 1907 to 1911 he was a member of the Irrigation Committee. In 1910, Reeder was no longer nominated by his party for a further term.

In 1911 he moved to Los Angeles and then to Beverly Hills in 1913. There he worked in the banking and real estate business until 1926. William Reeder died on November 7, 1929 in Beverly Hills and was buried in Hollywood Cemetery .
