Richard Ely Bird (born November 4, 1878 in Cincinnati , Ohio , †  January 10, 1955 in Long Beach , California ) was an American politician . Between 1921 and 1923 he represented the eighth constituency of the state of Kansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1887, Richard Bird came to Wichita , Kansas with his parents . There he attended public schools. In 1898 he graduated from Wichita High School . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1901, he began to work in Wichita in his new profession. Between 1916 and 1921 he was a judge in the 18th District of Kansas State.

Politically, Bird was a member of the Republican Party . In 1920 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC as their candidate in the eighth district of Kansas . There he took over from the Democrat William Augustus Ayres on March 4, 1921 , against whom he was defeated in the subsequent elections in 1922. This meant that Bird could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1923 .

After quitting his political activities in Washington, Bird worked again as a lawyer. Between 1925 and 1927 he worked as a bankruptcy administrator in Wichita on behalf of the federal government. In 1937, Bird retired. He spent his twilight years in Long Beach, where he died in January 1955.
