Chester Louis Mize (born December 25, 1917 in Atchison , Kansas , † January 11, 1994 in La Jolla , California ) was an American politician . Between 1965 and 1971 he represented the second constituency of the state of Kansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Chester Mize attended the public schools of his home country and then studied economics at the University of Kansas between 1935 and 1939 . In 1940 he became a member of the US Navy Reserve . During the Second World War he took an active part in the war as a marine from 1941 to 1945. He was used in the South Pacific. In the following years he was employed by private companies. Between 1945 and 1951 he headed the Finance Division a hardware company, and in 1951 to 1958 he was vice president of the Locomotive Finished Materials Co. he had from 1958 to 1964 at the company, the same position Valley Co, Inc. held. He also owned and operated his own ranch in New Mexico and a farm in Atchison County , Kansas.

Mize was a member of the Republican Party . He was a member of the school board in Atchinson and was chairman of the board of trustees of the local Mount St. Scholastica College . He was also a member of the University of Kansas Sports Committee. In 1964 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second district of Kansas , where he succeeded William H. Avery on January 3, 1965 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete a total of three legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1971 . In the 1970 elections he was defeated by the Democrat William R. Roy .

In 1971, Chester Mize was chairman of the Federal Customs Commission . He then moved to La Jolla, California, where he spent his twilight years. He died there in 1994.
