Todd Tiahrt / ˈtiːhɑːrt / (born June 15, 1951 in Vermillion , South Dakota ) is an American politician . From 1995 to 2011 he represented the fourth constituency of the state of Kansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Todd Tiahrt attended the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City after elementary school and then until 1975 the Evangel College in Springfield ( Missouri ). He graduated from Southwest Missouri State University . He then worked as a teacher before he started working for the Boeing factory , where he worked on numerous contracts with government agencies between 1981 and 1995.

Politically, Tiahrt became a member of the Republican Party . In 1990 he ran unsuccessfully for the Kansas House of Representatives . Instead, he became State Senator between 1993 and 1995 . In the 1994 congressional elections, he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth district of Kansas , where he succeeded Democrat Dan Glickman on January 3, 1995 , whom he had defeated in the election. In his election he also benefited from a restructuring of the constituencies of Kansas, which the Republican Party accommodated. Most recently, he was a member of the Budget Committee and two sub-committees.

He ran for the Republican nomination for the election to the US Senate , where he wanted to succeed Sam Brownback , but lost in the primary of his party to Jerry Moran , another incumbent Congressman. As his successor in the fourth district, Mike Pompeo was nominated by the Republicans , who could win the election. Tiahrt left the Congress on January 3, 2011.

Todd Tiahrt is married to Vicki Tiahrt. He lives privately in Goddard .
