history

The village of Kleeden is said to have emerged as a camp for Saxon soldiers during the Saxon-Slavic border battles between 940 and 965 under Margrave Gero . Kleeden is first documented in 1503 as "Kloeden". The place name comes from the Sorbian language and means "place where beams, tree trunks are".

From its first mention, Kleeden belonged to the lordship of Lübbenau and formed a suburb of the city of Lübbenau. At the beginning of the 17th century a tiller and a shepherd worked there . Until 1635 Kleeden was part of the margravate of Lower Lusatia and thus part of the states of the Bohemian Crown , after the Peace of Prague in 1635 the village was transferred to the Electorate of Saxony . In the Schmettauschen map series of 1767/87 both a village Kleeden and a Vorwerk Kleeden are recorded. In 1806 Kleeden became part of the newly formed Kingdom of Saxony . After the partition of Saxony decided at the Congress of Vienna , Kleeden became Prussian.

In 1820 Kleeden had 27 houses and 154 residents. By 1844 the population of the municipality had decreased to 134. In terms of church, Kleeden has always been part of the Zerkwitz parish . Around 1856 the community had 145 inhabitants and by 1867 the number of inhabitants increased further to 153. At the census of December 1, 1871, the rural community Kleeden had 139 inhabitants, who were distributed among 30 households. Of the population, 71 were male and 68 female; 29 residents were children under ten years of age. Furthermore, all residents were of the Evangelical Lutheran denomination. In addition, the Vorwerk Kleeden, registered as an estate district, had 13 inhabitants (nine male and four female).

In the course of time, the majority of the Kleeden district belonged to the large landowners; in 1900, of the total area of 240.6 hectares, only about 85 hectares belonged to the rural community. In 1910 the rural community of Kleeden had 125 and the Gutsviertel Kleeden 16 inhabitants. After the First World War , the rulers gave up the agricultural business in Kleeden, the land was leased, apartments and stables were rented and the sheep farm was relocated to Boschwitz . On January 1, 1926, the rural community and the Kleeden manor district were incorporated into Zerkwitz. After the Soviet land reform in 1945 , three new farmer positions were created in Kleeden. Kleeden stayed in the Calau district until 1950 and then moved to the Lübben district together with the Zerkwitz community . During the GDR district reform on July 25, 1952, the municipality of Zerkwitz with the district of Kleeden was assigned to the district of Calau in the Cottbus district .

Since 1960 there has been a Type I agricultural production cooperative, which was only a little later merged with the LPG "Vorwärts" from Groß Beuchow . On January 1, 1978, Zerkwitz was incorporated into Lübbenau with Kleeden. Originally Kleeden was a dead end village . Today Kleeden reaches up to the prefabricated buildings in Lübbenauer Neustadt. After reunification , Kleeden belonged to the Calau district in the state of Brandenburg, which was dissolved on December 6, 1993 in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district.
