history

1315 was the first documentary mention of Lübbenau as a rule and city. Between 1505 and 1619 Lübbenau was owned by the Count von der Schulenburg . Elisabeth zu Lynar, the widow of Count Johann Casimir zu Lynar, bought the Lübbenau estate in 1621. Thus the rule of Lübbenau was in the possession of the Counts of Lynar for over 300 years . After the death of his father Rochus Friedrich zu Lynar, Wilhelm Graf zu Lynar was the last owner of the Lübbenau estate. He participated in the assassination attempt of July 20, 1944 against Adolf Hitler by making his Seese Castle available for meetings. In autumn 1944 he was executed in Berlin-Plötzensee and his property was expropriated . After the war, the rule of Lübbenau became public property through the land reform of the Soviet zone of occupation . Farms, meadows of the Spreewald and parts of the forests were given to new settlers and farmers.
