Kleinensee is a district of Heringen (Werra) in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in East Hesse .

geography

The village is surrounded by forest, west of the main town of Heringen on the edge of the Gerstung basin. State road 3255 runs through the village .

history

The village was first mentioned in 1579 with the name Cleinensehe . The place name is derived from the former Cleinensee (later Seulingsee ), which was drained in 1704. A church is mentioned in 1604 . It was rebuilt from 1838 to 1840.

In 1733, by contract, the Thuringian Kleinensee in the Gerstungen district became a Hessian town. He was beaten together with five other places to Hesse after the Landgrave Friedrich his claim to the cooperation with Hessen Sachsen-Eisenach managed Amtshaus Breitenbach dropped. Since then, Kleinensee has belonged to the Friedewald office and was surrounded on three sides by Thuringian territory. The Evangelical Lutheran congregation in the village remained with Thuringia, which is why it was not reformed like the Hessian parishes in the 17th century.

The zone border that existed from 1945 divided the road connections to Thuringia . In 1952 the border was completely closed.

Kleinensee as a district

On August 1, 1972, Kleinensee was incorporated into the municipality of Heringen (Werra) as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

The former school was converted into a village community center in 1975 .

religion

The Evangelical Lutheran parishes of Bosserode and Kleinensee belonged to the Thuringian regional church until the end of the war , which is why many old church documents are stored in Thuringian archives. It was not until 1970 that the Eisenach bishop Moritz Mitzenheim and the Kassel bishop Vellmer signed an exchange contract without consulting the synods, in which the former Hessian Schmalkalden came to the Thuringian regional church and the two places to the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck .
