Kleinhöflein in Burgenland is a district in the west of the Burgenland capital Eisenstadt .
geography
Just like most of Eisenstadt, Kleinhöflein is also located on a terrace sloping towards the Wulka plain at the southern foot of the Leitha Mountains .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1380 as Clanhewelin. In the course of time the name changed to Kysheflin (Hungarian name 1382), Chlain Hoeflein (1405), Khlain Höflein (1580), Minor Hefflan (Latin name 1641), Klain Hefflein (1651). Like all of Burgenland, the place belonged to Hungary (German-West Hungary) until 1920/21 . Since 1898 had due to the Magyarization of the government in Budapest of Hungarian name Kishöflány be used.
After the end of World War I was after tough negotiations German-West Hungary in the Treaty of St. Germain and Trianon 1919 Austria awarded. The place has belonged to the newly founded federal state of Burgenland since 1921 (see also the history of Burgenland ). The wine-growing village of Kleinhöflein, located in the west of Eisenstadt, was part of the Eisenstadt rule in the Middle Ages , came into the possession of the Esterházy family in the 17th century and belonged to the Ödenburg county .
Incorporation
On January 1, 1971, the previously independent municipality was incorporated into the free town of Eisenstadt.
Culture and sights
- Catholic parish church Eisenstadt-Kleinhöflein hl. Veit: One of the sights in Kleinhöflein is the parish church, which has both Romanesque and Gothic features. The church, which sits enthroned on a hill above the village, is dedicated to St. Vitus and surrounded by a defensive wall and was mentioned in a document as early as 1464.
