The Klippitztörl Straße L91 is a state road L of the State of Carinthia and serves as a pass road for the Klippitztörl . It was formerly an important Roman trade route and important for the early iron extraction .

course

Bad St. Leonhard - border

The state road begins in the south of Bad St. Leonhard in the district of Wiesenau on Obdacher Strasse . After a few meters there is a level crossing on the Lavant Valley Railway . Then some municipal roads branch off to the so-called Hofbauersiedlung on the northern side of the road. After crossing the Klieningbach several times, it passes through the village of Kliening , a cadastral community of Bad St. Leonhard. After a somewhat winding area, Weißenbach Straße (L137) branches off to Wolfsberg on the south side . Shortly afterwards, the state road reaches the municipal boundary between Bad St. Leonhard and Wolfsberg and reaches the ski area at Klippitztörl, which brings the road to high traffic in winter. After a fairly sharp curve, the Klippitztörl Strasse reaches its highest point and thus its namesake, the Klippitztörl at 1642 meters above sea level .

Limit - Lölling

After the pass has been overcome, an extremely winding and steep road leads into the Löllinger Graben. As there is heavy truck traffic here due to the heavy logging, the road in this section to Lölling has to suffer a lot of soil damage. After crossing the Löllingbach several times, you come to the village of Lölling. From there it is not far to the end of the road on Görtschitztal Straße in the south of Hüttenberg and in the north of Mösel.

Historical meaning

Historic blast furnace facility on Klippitztörl Strasse

According to the Itinerarium Antonini and Tabula Peutingeriana, the Klippitztörl Straße is part of the old Roman route from Virunum via St. Leonhard to Iuvavum , and at Hüttenberg it crosses the Roman road from Krappfeld via the Perchauer Sattel into the Murtal (B 92) , which followed an even older Celtic route . The Hüttenberg was already an important ore mining area at this time, so that along the Klippitztörl Strasse in the so-called Löllinggraben , after which the Löllingite is named, there are traces of ancient ore mines as well as various listed ironworks, for example blast furnaces from 1572, remnants of the 1822 Johanna blast furnace or the Eugen blast furnace from 1838. A gold mine from 1325 is also documented for Kliening.
