The Kollbach is a 43 km long river running east-northeast through the Lower Bavarian hill country, which flows into the Vilskanal to the right of the Altvils near the parish village of Kröhstorf von Markt Eichendorf in the Lower Bavarian district of Dingolfing-Landau .

etymology

The unusual feminine gender for a flowing water, the name of which ends in brook , is explained with origin from the Celtic language , the origin of the name is assumed to be chail pacha 'black water'.

A parish village of Kollbach in the Markt Gangkofen through which it flows is named after the Kollbach , which was an independent municipality until 1972 and has since been a district of the market municipality, a village of Unterkollbach in the municipality of Simbach on the left side of the river and a desert Kollbach a little later on the right bank in the municipality of Malgersdorf , which are all still on the upper reaches.

geography

course

The source of the Kollbach is about 459  m above sea level. NHN on the edge of the forest east of the small settlement area Kaisreith between the villages of Marastorf and Taubendorf von Markt Gangkofen in the Rottal-Inn district . From here the brook flows on a large and medium scale very directionally to the east-northeast, on a small scale it shows violent meanders and many small tributaries. After the first larger town on the river, the parish village of Kollbach, it soon changes to the district of Dingolfing-Landau , where it usually runs to a little before Malgersdorf , then it moves back through the Rottal valley almost to the end on the middle and lower reaches Inn district. Only a few hundred meters before the confluence from the right into the Vilskanal at about 334  m above sea level. NHN flows through the parish village of Kröhstorf from its Eichendorf market again in Dingolfing district area. Along the district boundary, the Altkollbach branches off to the right , which then takes a nearly 3 km long estuary over the Kollbach overpass to the downstream Vilskanal near the village of Ehrnsdorf in the Roßbach community on this side .

Catchment area

It is 274 km² and is about 33 km long and at its thickest point 12 km wide spindle around the course of the Kollbach, between the immediate catchment area of the upstream Vils itself on the left and behind the right watershed that of the lower Inn tributary Rott and already on the middle course of the intervening catchment area of the Sulzbach , which flows into the Vilskanal shortly before its return to the Vils.

The maximum terrain height is 498  m above sea level on the northwestern edge . NHN the Auersberg a little north of the Gangkofer parish village of Kollbach. The hill country, which slopes irregularly towards the Kollbach estuary, has a high proportion of forest, which is only rarely distributed in larger, closed areas over the catchment area.

River and landscape

The Kollbach is the largest flowing water in the Lower Bavarian hill country with near-natural and natural banks, without straightening and flood protection , and the banks are populated by beavers . The river meanders for long stretches and floods are frequent on its flatter left bank. Therefore, despite the good soil, these areas are not used for arable farming, but as grassland . The right bank is characterized by steeper, wooded slopes, similar to the case of the Isar . The ice age solifluction is assumed to be the cause of the asymmetrical valley shape .
