Kopnica (German Köpnitz ) is a village in the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship . It belongs to the rural community Darłowo ( Rügenwalde ) in the district of Sławno ( Schlawe ).

Geographical location

Kopnica is located in Western Pomerania , six kilometers east of Darłowo and two kilometers south of the Jezioro Kopań ( Vitter See ) lake .

The village is on a glacial terminal moraine stretching from Cisowo ( Zizow ) to Dzierżęcin ( Dörsenthin ) at an altitude of about 50 meters above sea level. created. The southern part of the Feldmark forms the glacial valley of the Wieprza ( Wipper ).

Neighboring places are: in the west Zakrzewo ( Sackshöhe ), in the north Palczewice ( Palzwitz ), in the east Drozdowo ( Drosedow ) and in the south - beyond the Wieprza - Zielnowo ( Sellen ).

There is hardly any historical news about Kopnica or Köpnitz (formerly also: Copenitz , Köpenitz ). At some point the place was incorporated into the Rügenwalde office. Around 1648 the following are mentioned for the place: 1 Schulze, 10 farmers and 1 Kossät . In the 18th century there was an increase in the population, eight street cottagers and two Büdner (including a schoolmaster) are now mentioned.

In 1818 there were 156 inhabitants in Köpnitz. Their number rose to 207 by 1871 and was 178 in 1939.

Until 1945 Köpnitz belonged with the communities Kopahn (today Polish: Kopań), Sackshöhe (Zakrzewo) and Zízow (Cisowo) to the district of Zizow in the district of Schlawe i. Pom. in the administrative district of Köslin in the Prussian province of Pomerania . In terms of the registry office , Köpnitz was oriented towards Palzwitz (Palczewice), while the competent district court was in Rügenwalde (Darłowo). Towards the end of World War II , Köpnitz was occupied by Soviet troops on March 7, 1945 . After the end of the war, the village was placed under Polish administration. The village was renamed Kopnica by the Poles . The German population was expelled until 1947 .

Kopnica is now part of the Gmina Darłowo administrative unit in the Sławieński powiat of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship .

Before 1945 the majority of the Köpnitz population belonged to the Evangelical Church. The village was integrated with Kopahn (Kopań), Palzwitz (Palczewice), Sackshöhe (Zakrzewo) and Zizow (Cisowo) into the parish of Zizow, which was in the parish of Rügenwalde in the church province of Pomerania of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . The last German clergyman was Pastor Kurt Müller .

Kopnica has been mostly Catholic since 1945 . Today, however, Cisowo is no longer a parish church, but a branch church of the parish Barzowice ( Barzwitz ) in the Darłowo deanery in the Köslin-Kolberg diocese of the Catholic Church in Poland . In Köpnitz there was a single-class elementary school until 1945, in which 20 to 25 children were taught. The schoolhouse was from the 19th century.
