Korenewo ( Russian Ко́ренево ) is an urban-type settlement in the Kursk Oblast in Russia with 6119 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is about 100 km as the crow flies southwest of the Kursk Oblast Administrative Center on the Krepna River, which flows into the Seim about 6 km southwest from the left . The distance to the state border with Ukraine is about 20 km away.

Korenewo is the administrative center of the Rajons Korenewski and seat and only town of the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Possjolok Korenewo.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1625. It gained greater importance with the passing of the Kiev  - Kursk railway line in the 1860s, which was crossed there by a narrow-gauge railway from Sudscha to Rylsk in the 1890s .

In the final phase of the First World War , an armistice was signed on May 4, 1918 in Korenewo between representatives of the German-Austrian occupation forces in Ukraine and Soviet Russia .

On July 30, 1928, Korenewo became the administrative seat of a newly created Rajons named after him. In 1938 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement.

During the Second World War Korenewo was occupied by the German Wehrmacht from October 27, 1941 to March 8, 1943 .

Korenewo Railway Station (1912)

Korenewo has a train station at kilometer 355 of the railway line Kiev - Konotop (Ukraine) - Kursk opened in 1868 . There, a 24 km long branch line branches off to the north-west of Rylsk, which was converted from the original narrow-gauge line of 1894 with a gauge of 1000 mm to broad-gauge in 1958 and is now only used for freight traffic. The narrow gauge line opened in 1893 in the 35 km southwest located sudzha had already been reduced from 1,924 to 1,928 after it since the commissioning of the east extending broad gauge track lgov  - Kharkov had lost over 1,911 sudzha important.

The regional road 38K-030 Rylsk - Sudscha runs through the settlement (from Rylsk the 38K-017 runs to the Kursk Oblast center, from Sudscha the 38K-004).
