geography

The place is about 130 km as the crow flies east-south-east of the Kursk Oblast Administrative Center, not far from the border with the Belgorod and Voronezh oblasts .

Gorschetschnoje is the administrative center of Gorschetschenski Rajons and the seat of the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Possjolok Gorschetschnoje, to which the village of Bogorodizkoje, seven kilometers southeast, belongs.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1781. In 1928 Gorschetschnoje became the administrative seat of the newly created Rajons named after him.

During the Second World War , the settlement was occupied by the German Wehrmacht in early July 1942 . During the advance of the Red Army from Voronezh to the west in January, the strategically important location on a railway line on a ridge was heavily contested. When it was captured by the Red Army on January 25, larger German troops were encircled in the area east of the Gorschetschnoje – Kastornoje line . During their breakout from the basin to the west, the German troops were able to take the settlement again from January 29 to February 5, 1943.

In 1967 Gorschechnoye received urban-type settlement status
