Kschenski ( Russian Кше́нский ) is an urban-type settlement in the Kursk Oblast in Russia with 6,128 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

The place is a good 100 km as the crow flies east of the Kursk Oblast Administrative Center on the Kschen , a right tributary of the Bystraja Sosna .

Kschenski is the administrative center of the Rajons Sovetsky and seat and only town of the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Possjolok Kschenski.

history

The place was created in 1894 in connection with the construction of the Kursk - Voronezh railway line , when a station was built there and named after the river. The station settlement was initially also called Kschen until it was named Sowetski in 1918 , derived from Soviet . In 1926 the settlement became the administrative seat of a Volost , in 1928 a newly formed Rajons named after him.

During the Second World War , the settlement was fought over for a long time. For the first time she was in the front area from November to December 1941. On June 29, 1942, Sowetski was captured by the German Wehrmacht and recaptured by the Red Army at the end of January 1943 .

In 1958 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement under its current name, while the Rajon name was retained.

The Kschen station is located in Kschensky at km 121 of the Kursk - Voronezh line opened in 1894 .

Regional roads 38K-013, which begin 30 km south of the federal highway R298 Kursk - Voronezh - Borissoglebsk and lead to the border of Lipetsk Oblast (further towards Volovo ), and 38K-016 Kursk - Kastornoje intersect in the settlement .
