The Krebsbach flows into the Kahl |
The Krebsbach is a left tributary of the Kahl in the Spessart in the district of Aschaffenburg in Lower Franconia . It flows mainly to the northwest.
geography
The Krebsbach rises as Vockenbach in a valley on the Hahnenkamm ridge near Mömbris - Hemsbach north of the Stempelhöhe . It flows through the narrow Krebsbach gorge between the Schanzenkopf and the Hahnenkamm main summit. The former locations of the Randenburg and the Forgotten Castle are to the right of the stream on two hills . To the left of the brook on the summit of the Schanzenkopf there is a historic ring wall . In the lower valley, the Krebsbach is used as a water supply for some ponds. In Alzenau the Krebsbach crosses under the Märkerstraße (formerly: Staatsstraße 2305 ) and flows into the Kahl opposite the car park at Alzenau Castle .
Flood
On the night of July 29, 1896, a bad storm lived directly above Alzenau. The area at the foot of the Hahnenkamm was particularly badly hit. Within a very short time the Krebsbach turned into a raging river and destroyed wheat and potato fields .

In the Alzenau district of Sachsenhausen, the tidal wave reached a height of up to two meters. It invaded most of the houses and stables. The cattle could often not be brought to safety in time. Numerous cows were up to their bellies in the water. Several pigs were washed up on the doorstep of one property . In many cases people were only able to save themselves with great difficulty. Lots of furniture was actually washed out of one house . The immense masses of water streaming in brought along huge amounts of rubble and mud . These were deposited meters high in the road to Kälberau . The tidal wave was so powerful that the Kahl could not grasp it and in no time overflowed its banks . The flood of the Kahl shot right through the middle of Alzenau, between the church and the castle and a long way down to the actual river bed .
On August 10, 1981 there was also a severe flood of the Krebsbach, which caused damage in Alzenau.
