history

Kreuzthal goes back to the settlements of Sturs and Winden. The first mention was in 1237 in a document that the Würzburg Bishop Hermann I von Lobdeburg had made out about the establishment of a daughter monastery of the Cistercian nuns of Heiligenthal Monastery , which was to be named "Vallis sanctae crucis". Due to the remote location and the harsh climate, it was relocated to the Main in Mariaburghausen in 1243 .

In 1582, Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn , Prince-Bishop of Würzburg, closed the monastery. The former monastery property was assigned to the University of Würzburg . Realer's coat of arms is located at the gate of the former forest farm of the Würzburg University Foundation.

In 1862 the rural community of Humprechtshausen , consisting of the towns of Kreuzthal and Humprechtshausen, was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office in Haßfurt . In 1871 Kreuzthal had 106 inhabitants. In 1900 the 1,589 hectare rural community had 558 residents, 538 of whom were Catholic and 20 Protestant, and 105 residential buildings. The church village of Kreuzthal, 4 kilometers from the main town of Humprechtshausen, had 84 residents and 15 residential buildings. The responsible Catholic parish was in Marktsteinach , 7 kilometers away , and the Catholic denominational school was in town. In 1925 the place had 92 people and 16 residential buildings.

In 1950 the church village had 132 residents and 16 residential buildings. The Protestants belonged to the parish of Rügheim . In 1961 Kreuzthal had 108 residents and 21 residential buildings. In 1970 there were 104 and in 1987 91 inhabitants and 27 residential buildings with 28 apartments.

On July 1, 1972, the Haßfurt district was dissolved as part of the regional reform and Kreuzthal came with Humprechtshausen to the Haßberg district. On May 1, 1978, the municipality of Humprechtshausen was incorporated into Riedbach.
