The Kuhbach (more rarely the Kuhbach) is an 11.9 km long, left or northern tributary of the Itter in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district in northern Hesse ( Germany ).
course
The Kuhbach rises in the eastern foothills of the Sauerland part of the Rhenish Slate Mountains . Its source is in the southeast part of the Diemelsee nature park, around 1 km northwest of the Korbach district of Lelbach, between the Echternberg ( 573.1 m above sea level ) in the north and the Hollenberg ( 502.2 m ) in the south at around 475 m .
Initially the Kuhbach flows eastwards. A few hundred meters below its origin, it absorbs the water of a small stream that rises between the Echternberg in the west and the Flachskamp ( 571.6 m ) in the east. From then on, the stream flows further to the southeast and leaves the nature park. It passes the village of Lelbach to the northeast and flows through Korbach on the Waldecker Tafel . From there it flows south and passes under federal highway 252 .
Finally, the Kuhbach passes the Vöhler village of Obernburg and flows into the Eder tributary Itter at around 330 m below it .
Surname
The assumption that the Kuhbach was the namesake of the city of Korbach is possibly wrong. It is more likely that the name refers to Curbecci (polling station by the stream).
Even if the ending "Bach" could indicate that the name is masculine, the feminine form is common in Korbach, such as B. can also be seen from the street name " An der Kuhbach ".
Watershed
The headwaters of the Kuhbach are located on the Diemel-Eder / Fulda / Weser-Wasserscheide , especially since it initially makes a long path flowing south over the Itter , Eder and Fulda to the Weser , while the Twiste , which is on the eastern side of the Flachskamp rises, over the Diemel drains into the Weser.
