Kuschener ( Russian Кужене́р ; Mari Кужэҥер ) is an urban-type settlement in the Republic of Mari El in Russia with 5384 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is about 70 km as the crow flies east-northeast of the republic capital Yoshkar-Ola on the upper reaches of the Nemda , a right tributary of the Pischma .

Kuschener administrative center is the Rajons Kuschenerski and seat of the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Kuschener, also the villages Bolshoi Sabaner (2 km northeast), Kolotki (southeast subsequently) to and (4 km north-east) include Saber.

history

The year the town was founded is not known. Located in an area with a small Russian population, it only became a local center at the turn of the 20th century. In 1901 an Orthodox nunnery was built there.

Since January 25, 1935, Kuschener has been the administrative seat of a district named after him, with an interruption from March 11, 1959 to January 12, 1965, when the district was dissolved and its territory was divided among the neighboring districts. In 1974 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement.

A few kilometers north of Kuschener, the regional road 88K-001 (formerly R172) runs from Joschkar-Ola to Urschum . To the southwest, the regional road 88K-016 bypasses the settlement in the neighboring district of Paranga, which is located to the southeast .

The nearest train station is in the republic capital Yoshkar-Ola.
