Sowetski ( Russian Сове́тский ; Mari У Роҥго , U Roňgo ) is an urban-type settlement in the Republic of Mari El ( Russia ) with 10,664 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The place is located in the Volga region about 40 kilometers northeast of the republic capital Yoshkar-Ola on the river Ronga in the river system of the left Volga tributary Kleine Kokschaga (Malaja Kokschaga).
Sowetski is the administrative center of the Sowetski Rajons of the same name .
history
The place arose in the 1950s in connection with the establishment of a furniture factory immediately west of the village of Fokino, which had been the administrative seat of Ronga Rajon since 1953. The year of foundation of the Sowetski settlement is 1958; that year the Rajon administration was transferred there. In 1960 the Rajon received the name Sovetsky, and in 1965 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement.
The place name in Mari, U Roňgo, stands for New Ronga and refers to the name of the river and the seven kilometers south of the village Ronga, after which the Rajon, founded in 1935, was originally named.

Economy and Infrastructure
Local building company is a large furniture factory. There are also companies in the food industry.
The regional road R 172 runs through Sowetski from Yoshkar-Ola, where the nearest railway station is located, to Urschum in the neighboring Kirov Oblast .
A few kilometers east of the village is a 350-meter-high television and radio transmission mast erected in 1984 .
