Medvedevo ( Russian Медве́дево , Mari Маскасола / Maskasola ) is an urban-type settlement in the Republic of Mari El ( Russia ) with 16,841 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The settlement is located in the central Volga region . It represents a western suburb of the republic capital Yoshkar-Ola , from whose city center it is about ten kilometers away.

Medvedevo is the administrative center of the Medvedevo Rajon of the same name .

history

Medvedovo village was founded in the second half of the 17th century. In December 1943 Medvedevo became the administrative center of a newly founded Rajons. From the 1960s onwards, the place developed into an industrial and residential suburb of the neighboring city ​​of Yoshkar-Ola. On April 2, 1973 Medvedewo received the status of an urban-type settlement with the simultaneous incorporation of some surrounding villages.

Culture and sights

Since 1995 there has been a Rajon local museum in Medvedevo . In 2000 a small zoo was set up.

Economy and Infrastructure

In Medvedevo there are companies in the food and light industry as well as in the forestry and construction industries.

The settlement is on the railway line Zelenodolsk (station Seljony Dol ) - Yoshkar-Ola - Jaransk (station name Aksamatowo , route kilometer 110) of the Gorkier Railway . The regional road R173 runs past the northern edge of the village, which connects Yoshkar-Ola with Kosmodemjansk (there is a ferry connection over the Cheboksarsk reservoir of the Volga ) in the south-western part of the republic and continues to the M7 trunk road. There is a city ​​bus and trolley bus connection to Yoshkar-Ola .
