Paranga ( Russian Параньга́ ; Mari Поранча ) is an urban-type settlement in the Republic of Mari El in Russia with 5985 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The place is about 100 km as the crow flies east of the republic capital Yoshkar-Ola near the source of the Paranginka, a right tributary of the left Volga tributary Ilet .
Paranga is the administrative center of the Rajons Paranginski and seat of the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Paranga, also includes the village just south subsequent Ljaschberdino to.
history
The place was founded in 1550. At the turn of the 18th century it was the first temporary administrative seat of a Wolost des Ujesds Urschum of the Vjatka governorate .
On April 30, 1931, Paranga became the administrative seat of the newly created Tatarski rajon (based on the large proportion of Tatars in the population, even today almost 50%), which was renamed Paraginski rajon on July 8, 1932 . In 1974 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement.

Paranga is connected via the regional road 88K-016 with the north-west neighboring Rajonzentrum Kuschener (further connection to 88K-001 in the direction of Joschkar-Ola), and via the 88K-017 with the south-west neighboring Morki . To the north, the 88K-018 also leads to 88K-001 (formerly R172) Joschkar-Ola - Urschum, 17 km away.
The nearest train stations are in the republic's capital, Yoshkar-Ola, and 75 km south in Arsk in Tatarstan on the Moscow - Kazan - Yekaterinburg railway line .
