L'Ametlla del Vallès is a Catalan city ​​in the province of Barcelona in northeastern Spain . It is located in the comarca of Vallès Oriental .

L'Ametlla del Vallès is located about 30 kilometers north of Barcelona between the Congost and Tenes valleys .

history

A Neolithic grave and remains of Iberian and Roman settlements were found within the district .

At the beginning of the 10th century, L'Ametlla Emma belonged to Barcelona , daughter of Count Wilfried I ( Guifré el Pilós ), and abbess of the monastery of Sant Joan de les Abadesses . She initiated the construction of the first parish church of Sant Genís .

From 1059, L'Ametlla became part of the fiefdom and later barony of Montbui. For the next five centuries, L'Ametlla remained under the rule of the Barons of Montbui.

Culture and sights

Parish Church of Sant Genís in L'Ametlla del Vallès

The parish church of Sant Genís stands at the highest point of the municipality . The first church consecration in 932 was followed by another consecration by Oleguer , the Archbishop of Tarragona , in 1123 after major renovations and extensions . From this old church there are only remains of the wall in the current building.

The modernist town hall by architect Raspall is located in the lower part of the city.

The hermitage of Sant Nicolau , built in the 12th century, is located 370 m above the village .

Economy and Transport

The trunk road C17 is the main connection with Barcelona, Vic and the Pyrenees . Numerous companies have set up along this road, including the food and furniture industries.

The district is wooded on around 450 hectares, predominantly with pine trees and some oaks. The available groundwater allows horticulture on around 30 hectares. In addition, mainly grain, wine, olives and almonds are grown.
