Ladina Meier-Ruge (born March 2, 1992 ) is a Swiss biathlete .

Career

Ladina Meier-Ruge began her sporting career in cross-country skiing and at the beginning of March 2008 she took part in the youth games of the organization of the Alpine countries ski associations in Bois-d'Amont , France . Both in the individual over 5 km freestyle and with the Swiss 3 × 5 km relay, she placed in the midfield. In the period that followed, she completed numerous races in the FIS category in Switzerland with comparable results, including national championships. In 2010 she switched to biathlon and was only sporadically represented in cross-country skiing competitions. At the beginning of 2011 she started as a teenager at the Junior World Championships in Nové Město na Moravě and reached 64th in sprint and 41st in individual in her first international title fights. Almost two months later she was fifth in the mass start and fourth in the sprint at the Swiss Youth Championships . She finished the overall ranking of the RWS Swiss Cup as Vice Cup winner behind Patricia Jost . After the end of the season, she was promoted to the junior C-team of the national association Swiss-Ski .

Meier-Ruge contested her first competition in the IBU Cup on December 10, 2011 in Ridnaun , finishing 86th in the individual. The next day she improved four positions in the sprint. At the subsequent IBU Cup in Obertilliach , she finished 15th with the mixed relay alongside Irene Cadurisch , Serafin Wiestner and Christian Stebler . At the lower-class Alpine Cup in Martell at the beginning of January 2012, she reached third place in the sprint and in the pursuit. One month later she competed at the Junior European Championships in Osrblie, Slovakia , and achieved 35th place in the individual as the best result. The following Junior World Championships in Kontiolahti ran similarly in the three individual races with results between 43rd and 53rd place. Running in third position in the Swiss relay, she finished eighth with Irene Cadurisch and Elisa Gasparin . At the end of the season, at the end of March 2012, she won two bronze medals in the sprint and mass start at the Swiss championships and was also the overall winner of the RWS Swiss Junior Cup. For the following season she was accepted into the newly merged C-squad (junior national squad).

At the end of August 2012, Meier-Ruge achieved two podium finishes at the IBU Women 's Roller Cup in Forni Avoltri . At the start of the season at the IBU Cup in Beitostølen on December 1, 2012, she achieved 43rd place in the sprint, her best career result in the continental series of competitions so far. Without a shooting error, she was almost three minutes behind the winner Ann Kristin Flatland . She celebrated her World Cup debut on December 9, 2012 in Hochfilzen . As the final runner and replacement for the sick Patricia Jost, she completed the Swiss women's relay and was taken out of the race as 16th of 22 nations started shortly before the finish due to lapping. For the first time in the history of international biathlon, three sisters, Selina , Elisa and Aita Gasparin, competed in a relay. At the beginning of January 2013, she was called up again for the World Cup relay in Oberhof and took 15th place with her teammates with a slightly different line-up. At the Junior World Championships in Obertilliach at the end of January 2013 she finished 35th in the sprint, 30th in the pursuit and 32nd in the individual with good shooting performance. In the relay, she was the starting runner despite the penalty loop, together with Aita Gasparin and Patricia Jost, taking fifth place. In February 2013 she reached the 28th and 41st place in the singles and sprint of the juniors at the European Championships in Bansko . At the end of the season she ran twice on the podium at the Alpine Cups in Hochfilzen and Pokljuka in March 2013. In the overall ranking of the juniors, she placed third behind Austrian Fabienne Hartweger and teammate Flurina Volken.

In her first sprint competition in the World Cup , she finished 87th on January 3, 2014 in Oberhof.

Ladina Meier-Ruge lives in the municipality of Fiesch in the canton of Valais and starts for the Obergoms ski club .

On November 8, 2010, she took part in Brig in one of a total of six castings across Switzerland , in which young talents were sought as moderators for the newly founded TV station Joiz . In the voting for the preselection on the online portal of the commuter newspaper 20 Minuten , she landed in third place.
