The Lamay district is located in the Calca province in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on January 3, 1952. It has an area of ​​95.5 km². The 2017 census counted 5846 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 5011, in 2007 it was 5359. The seat of the district administration is the small town of Lamay with 2289 inhabitants located at an altitude of 2934  m on the right bank of the Río Urubamba (as of 2017). Lamay is located about 6 km south-southeast of the provincial capital Calca and 17 km north-northeast of the regional capital Cusco .

Geographical location

The Lamay district is located in the Andes in the southeast of the province of Calca. The Río Urubamba borders the district in the southwest.

The Lamay district is bordered to the south by the district Coya , in the west and northwest on the district Calca , in the northeast on the district Colquepata ( Province Paucartambo ) and to the east by the district Písac .
