The State Horticultural Show Schwäbisch Gmünd 2014 was the 26th State Horticultural Show in Baden-Württemberg . It took place from April 30 to October 12, 2014 in Schwäbisch Gmünd in the Ostalb district. Their motto was "between heaven and earth". 1,000 new trees were planted, 30,000 perennials were planted and 4,000 m² of spring / summer florets and 6,000 m² of flower meadow were sown. In total, the State Garden Show covers around 30 hectares, of which 14 hectares are land, 1 hectare is water and 15 hectares are forest.

Before the state horticultural show, the city was extensively rebuilt and renewed in some places. Numerous buildings were demolished and / or built back, u. a. the Engelsbrauerei, the Horten department store, the old post office, the station bridge and the station hotel as well as several buildings in the Ledergasse.

With a visitor record of around 2 million visitors, it is the best-attended state horticultural show in Baden-Württemberg, ahead of Freiburg in 1986. The show's "citizen concept" was an innovation. 1,361 volunteers , including 60 asylum seekers from the local accommodation, took on tasks on the site including the admission controls.

The venue is the urban area of Schwäbisch Gmünd, namely in particular the city garden with Remspark, the train station, the Josefsbach, the historic city center, the Taubentalwald and the Wetzgau landscape park.

Earth kingdom

The area around the Stadtgarten, on the Rems and the historic old town are called Erdenreich .

Ladder to heaven

The pigeon valley forest is called Himmelsleiter and connects earth kingdom and sky garden . It is the first state horticultural show that integrates a complete forest.

The Waldentdeckersteg runs through the forest , a 470 meter long plank path made of oak and Douglas fir wood in two sections, which can be reached by gravel paths , which has been handcrafted as gently as possible for the forest . It offers numerous play opportunities and information stations.

Erdenreich and Himmelsgarten are also connected by shuttle buses that run every quarter of an hour from the train station via Großdeinbach to Wetzgau and back.

Sky garden

The landscape park in Wetzgau is called Himmelsgarten , the most striking structure of which is the 38.6 m high wooden observation tower Himmelsstürmer , from whose observation platform you have a very good overview of the entire complex.
