Lasgo is a vocal trance formation from Belgium . It consists of the songwriter and producer Peter Luts (born December 14, 1971 ), the songwriter and producer Jef Martens and the singer Jelle van Dael (born May 2, 1990 in Opglabbeek , Belgium). With well over five million records sold (singles and albums) to date, Lasgo is one of the most successful electronic dance music acts in the world. Along with Sylver and Milk Inc. , the group is one of the pioneers of vocal trance .

Peter Luts is not only known as the producer of Ian Van Dahl , but is also a sought-after remixer and DJ .

history

2001-2002

In 2001 David Vervoort and Peter Luts worked together on various club songs, including Something . They were looking for a singer and since Evi Goffin was already known from her singing for Fiocco and 2 Fabiola , she was chosen. Because David is a big Scotland fan or part of his family lives in Scotland , the largest city in Scotland was the inspiration for the name of the new dance project: Lasgo - the abbreviation of the name Glasgow by the first and last letter.

The debut single Something , released in early June 2001, hit the charts : first in Belgium, then in Germany, Spain and other European countries. The song received a gold record in both Belgium and Germany for more than 25,000 and 250,000 copies sold. Something was named Best National Single of 2001 at the TMF Awards in Belgium . With Something , Peter Luts and David Vervoort received two BMI Awards in 2004 for their success as songwriters in the pop and dance categories. Something's music video was filmed on the premises of Prague Central Station .

The second single, Alone , was released in early November 2001, but like all other singles, it could n't surpass the success of Something . In the UK, Alone was a top 10 hit.

In November 2001, the debut album Some Things , recorded within five months, was released. Surprisingly, Pray was released as the third single from the first album in October 2002 , although the song I Wonder, which was not included on the album , was released on vinyl a month before . The debut album Some Things was re-released in December 2002: it contains 3 more songs that were not included in the first release: Searching , You and I Wonder .

2003-2006

After a long break, the song Surrender was released as a harbinger of the second album in October 2003 as a vinyl and in January 2004 as a single CD. All Night Long from January 2005 only reached the top 10 of the singles charts in Belgium. The second album Far Away was released a month later in February 2005 in Belgium and the USA. The album is influenced by the electro-pop of the 80s, because David describes Depeche Mode as his greatest source of inspiration. A cover version from the 1980s can be found on the album: Hold Me Now (originally from 1984 by the Thompson Twins ). The lyrics on the album are mostly from Annemie Coenen, Ian Van Dahl's singer at the time .

Further singles were released from the album Far Away , which by no means could build on the success of the first singles from the first album: Who's That Girl? (Feat. David Bayer) will be released in Belgium at the end of June 2005 and in Germany at the beginning of January 2006. In the accompanying video, Evi does not play the main role for the first and only time because of her pregnancy. After the presentation of the single Lying u. a. when Lasgo performed on October 1st at the TMF Awards 2005 in Belgium, it was released at the end of October 2005. For the single, the song was remixed with other sounds, it cannot be found on the album in this form. In the US, Hold Me Now was released from the album in late June 2006.

Since the middle of 2006, apart from the joint concerts with Ian Van Dahl (Lasgo vs Ian Van Dahl "Battle Tour") in April / May / June 2006, there have been neither performances by Lasgo as a band nor a new release that would be on a new album can point out.

2007-2009

At the end of May 2008 it became public that Evi is no longer available as a singer. A little later David announced that he was also no longer interested in the Lasgo project.

In the course of a casting show called “Let's Go Lasgo” on the Belgian TV channel JIM, a new singer was sought for Lasgo in July and August 2008, and 18-year-old Jelle van Dael emerged as the winner. The first single with her as a vocalist is entitled Out Of My Mind and was released on September 1st, 2008 in Belgium.

former members

Evi Goffin

Before joining Lasgo, Evi Goffin (born February 27, 1981 in Antwerp , Belgium ) was a guest singer for Fiocco and 2 Fabiola under the pseudonym Medusa . David Vervoort and Peter Luts hired her for the Lasgo project because she was already known from her singing for Fiocco and 2 Fabiola.

In the fall of 2006 there were conflicts between her and the management, so that there were no new publications. The break as a singer because of the birth of her first son, initially communicated as a break, was ended in summer 2008 by the search for a new singer for Lasgo. Evi Goffin left Lasgo in 2008.

David Vervoort

The songwriter, keyboardist, singer and producer David Vervoort (born  December 28, 1977 in Bonheiden , Belgium ) was also the producer of Ian Van Dahl. He also works as a DJ under the stage name DJ Dave McCullen.

At the end of May 2008 David left the Lasgo project because he said he was no longer interested in writing Lasgo-style songs.
