Lauri Lahesalu (born March 29, 1979 in Tallinn , Estonian SSR ) is an Estonian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Dragons de Rouen in the French Ligue Magnus since 2012 .

Career

Lauri Lahesalu began his career as an ice hockey player in his Estonian homeland at THK-88 Tallinn . He then went to Finland, where he was active from 1997 to 2000 in the youth division of the first division clubs Tappara Tampere and Ässät Pori . From 2000 to 2004, the defender played in the Mestis , the second highest division in Finland, for Jokipojat Joensuu , TuTo Turku and Hokki Kajaani . In the 2001/02 season he was elected to the Mestis All-Star Team. He was also used in six games for Kärpät Oulu from the SM-liiga in the 2003/04 season , in which he provided a template. The team became Finnish champions at the end of the season .

For the 2004/05 season Lahesalu moved to the Danish AL-Bank Ligaen , in which he ran up for the Odense Bulldogs . After he started the following season at his ex-club from Kajaani, he moved to ASG Angers from the French Ligue Magnus , for which he played from 2005 to 2012 and with which he first won the Coupe de France in 2007 and then the Trophée des Champions won. In 2010 he was the defender with the most assists in Ligue Magnus. In the summer of 2012 he moved within Ligue Magnus to the Dragons de Rouen , with whom he won the French national championship and the league cup in his first year there . In 2014 he successfully defended the league cup with his team.

International

For Estonia , Lahesalu took part in the junior division first in the U18-C European Championships in 1996 and 1997 and then in the U20-C World Cup in 1999 .

In the senior category he was initially on the ice for his colors at the B-World Championships in 1998 , 1999 and 2000 . After switching to the current division system, he played for Estonia at the World Championships of Division I in 2001 , 2003 , 2005 , when he was the best assist and top scorer among the tournament's defenders, in 2006 , 2007 , when he was again the most successful scorer among the defenders, in 2008 and 2011 as well as Division II in 2002 , 2009 , 2012 when he was voted the best player of the Estonian team, and in 2014 when he led the Estonians as team captain for promotion to Division I. He also played for Estonia in qualifying for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin .
