Law Wing-fai

Law Wing-fai ( Chinese  羅永暉 , Pinyin Luó Yǒnghuī ; born July 29, 1949 in Haikou ) is a Chinese composer .

Life

Law Wing-fai was born in the Chinese province of Hainan , but grew up in Macau and Hong Kong . He studied composition with Hsu Tsang-houei at the National Taiwan Normal University ( Bachelor of Arts 1972) and with John Crawford at the University of California ( Master of Arts 1979).

After returning to Hong Kong, he worked for the film industry. He composed the score for 20 films.

In 1980 he became a lecturer in music theory and composition at Lingnan College. From 1984 to 1998 he was dean of the composition faculty at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts . In 1995 he studied computer music at Stanford University . Since 1998 he has been composer in residence at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Stephen Yip and Pang Chun-ting are among his students .
