Louis' uncanny encounter with the aliens (original title: Le Gendarme et les extra-terrestres ) is a French feature film from 1979. The comedy by Jean Girault is the penultimate of a total of six films about the gendarmes of Saint Tropez played by Louis de Funès and describes how a chaotic police force prevents the invasion of human-looking, but internally mechanical aliens . The German cinema premiere took place on March 23, 1979.

action

On a patrol trip on the country roads near Saint-Tropez , the gendarmes Ludovic Cruchot and Beaupied discovered one after the other the start of a UFO in a small forest clearing. They are initially not believed by their boss, Gerber. One evening Cruchot faces one of the aliens who has taken the form of Gerber.

When Cruchot realizes that the aliens are able to take on human form, but consist of mechanical parts inside and have to ingest oil in order to ensure their bodies function, he wants to expose the copy of his boss and put it aside. However, he only meets his real boss, whom he rams a screwdriver into the buttocks. When he finally does this to Gerber's superior, the Colonel, whom he also considers an alien, he is locked up as a danger to those around him. However, he can break free and take refuge in a monastery. Here he disguises himself as a nun and has to maintain the masquerade when his colleagues search the monastery and the bishop appears.

He later succeeds in escaping, but he finds that the invaders have spread further and have taken their place among the civilian population. To get hold of him, the aliens send a copy of Cruchot's wife to lure him to the UFO. But he can flee. Eventually, he can convince his colleagues to work together against the threat. Through a transmitter that one of the strangers has lost, they learn of two copies that are in a restaurant on the coast. Without their boss, who has taken a day off, they go to where they meet two strange men who drink salad oil as if it were wine. When they want to attack the two, an aquarium is destroyed, the contents of which spill over one of the two suspects. While the latter then flees screaming, the other uses a beam weapon to make the restaurant disappear before he also escapes.

When Gerber later comes to the restaurant with his wife to eat there, he thinks he is dreaming because the restaurant has disappeared. When he hears strange noises from the beach, he follows them and witnesses how one of the aliens dissolves into its components due to contact with the water and only remains as a rusty skeleton.

Now convinced of the existence of the aliens, Gerber teams up with his troop. In order to expose the invaders, they attack the population with water cannons. After a lecture by the Colonel, they present him the rusty remains from the beach. To be completely convinced, one of the strangers should be caught. To attract them, they build a UFO dummy and arm themselves with portable fire-fighting syringes. When it comes to a fight, the group, which then flies away in the spaceship, manages to put the attackers to flight.

Shooting of the final parade with Michel Galabru, Louis de Funès, Maurice Risch, Michel Modo, Guy Grosso and Jean-Pierre Rambal

At a parade the next day, however, it became clear that the wrong people stayed on the ground when they collapsed on the street as a late aftermath of the water attack. The real gendarmes finally manage to steer the spacecraft to earth with difficulty, where they are frenetically celebrated by the crowd after a crash landing in the sea.

Reviews

"Largely unimaginative, only moderately funny comedy with a few taste derailments and modest approaches to fooling around science fiction films."

“Star comedian Funès, as always, out of breath, but the storyline seems more short of breath than usual; for fans of the stupid hectic. "
