Leni Shida (born May 22, 1994 in Arua ) is a Ugandan athlete who competes in the sprint and specializes in the 400-meter distance .

Athletic career

Leni Shida gained her first international experience at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014, where she reached the 400 meter semifinals, in which she was eliminated with 54.30 seconds. In 2015 she took part in the Summer Universiade in Gwangju , where she was eliminated in the semifinals over 400 meters with 53.40 seconds and took fifth place in the Ugandan 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 45.50 minutes. At the subsequent African Games in Brazzaville , she was eliminated over 200 meters in the semifinals and finished sixth in her specialty discipline in 52.86 s. In 2016 she was eighth in 53.91 s at the African Championships in Durban, South Africa . In 2017, she finished fifth in 54.57s at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku . In August she took part in the Student World Games in Taipei for the second time . Over 200 meters and with the 4 x 100 meter relay she was eliminated in the preliminary run, over 400 meters she reached the semifinals and with the 4 x 400 meters relay she reached in 3: 43.38 minutes sixth place.

In 2018 he participated again in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast and was eliminated there with 54.50 s in the semifinals. In addition, she was eighth in the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 35.03 min. In August she was eliminated from the African Championships in Asaba with 24.36 s in the semifinals and was sixth over 400 meters in 52.78 s. At the IAAF World Relays 2019 in Yokohama , she was eliminated in the 4-by-400-meter relay with 3: 35.02 min in the preliminary round. In July she won the silver medal behind the Mexican Paola Morán in 51.64 s at the Summer Universiade in Naples . Before that, she set a new national record in the semifinals with 51.59 seconds and thus qualified for the World Championships in Doha in October. At the African Games in Rabat , she finished sixth in 52.47 seconds and won the bronze medal behind Nigeria and Botswana in the Ugandan relay in 3: 32.25 minutes. Then she retired at the World Championships with 52.22 s in the first round .

In 2017 and 2019 Shida was Ugandan champion in the 200 and 400 meter run as well as with the 4 x 100 relay, in 2017 she also won the 4 x 400 meter relay. She is a student at Bugema University .
