Leon is a city (with the status " City ") and the administrative seat of Decatur County in the US -amerikanischen State Iowa . In 2010 Leon had 1977 inhabitants; their number had decreased to 1901 by 2013.

Leon is located in southern Iowa, around 20 km north of the border with the neighboring state of Missouri . The border with Nebraska visual Missouri River flows some 190 km to the west; about 240 km to the east, the Mississippi forms the border between Iowa and Illinois .
