Lamoni is a city (with the status " City ") and largest town of Decatur County in the US -amerikanischen State Iowa . In 2010 Lamoni had 2,324 inhabitants, the number of which decreased to 2309 by 2013.
Lamoni is home to Graceland University , which was originally founded by the Mormon community of Christ . The city was named after Lamoni, a pacifist king from the Book of Mormon .

Lamoni is located in southern Iowa, around 3 km north of the border with the neighboring state of Missouri . The border with Nebraska visual Missouri River flows some 180 km to the west; about 250 km to the east, the Mississippi forms the border between Iowa and Illinois .
