History and population

The place name Lichteneck is derived from Lichten (= racket) or an angular, forest-free area. The village was first mentioned in a document in 1363 as Lichtnegk . In the 18th century the village consisted of six buildings. The Schneiderhäusl, now a carriage company (Lichteneck 2), the Schmidlgut, formerly Schoberdofferlpoint or Schoberndoferlpoint (Lichteneck 3), the Gotthard-Gut, formerly Gotthartenpoint or Gotthardenpoint (Lichteneck 4), the Maurer-Gut, formerly also Maurerpoint or Maurersölden (Lichteneck 5 ) and the Ponthans, formerly Martlpoint or Mörtlpoint (Lichteneck 6). The Schusterhäusl opposite the current Lichteneck 11 building no longer exists.

In 1869, 33 people lived in six houses in Lichteneck. By 1910 the population decreased slightly, with 31 residents in seven houses that year. All residents of the village were of the Catholic faith.
