History and population

The place name Hirschlag, formerly also Hörschlag, is found for the first time in 1532 as Hierslach in documents. The name is derived from racket or clearing. In the 18th century, the hamlet consisted only of the Aigner-Zuhaus or Stanglhäusl (Hirschlag 1), the Lipperl farm, formerly Lippgut, Riesengut, Schinnnagl- and Schmalangergut or Fürschlagsölde (Hirschlag 2) and the Aignergut, formerly Hürschlager- or Hürschlingergut ( Hirschlag 3). In 1869, 24 people lived in four houses in Buch. Until 1910 the population decreased slightly, with 21 inhabitants in four houses in that year. All residents of the village were of the Catholic faith.
