Liebfrauen Schiffleut and salt paver brotherhood

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Liebfrauen Schiffleut und Salzfertiger-Brotherhood (better known as Lamplbruderschaft ) in Passau is the oldest still existing German civil association. It was founded over 700 years ago to help poor and needy Passau citizens. The Lampl Brotherhood is also the oldest still existing Stammtisch in Germany.

history

The Our Dear Lady salt maker and ship's character ( character stands for brotherhood in the Middle Ages ) was first mentioned in a document in 1306. Prince-Bishop's decrees of handicrafts regulations suggest a foundation around the period 1270 to 1280.

The name Lamplbruderschaft goes back to Magnus Lampl, who set up a foundation of 20 guilders for the brotherhood on July 3, 1604. The Zechbuch was created in 1422 and a Zechhaus was acquired in the Hirschwirtsgassl in Passau in 1446/48. From 1497 liturgical donations were made to the church in Niedernburg, and in 1530 a guild drawer with documents and account book was purchased. For the years around 1579, 1630, 1678, 1761 and around 1800, the Passau City Archives contain further evidence of the existence of the brotherhood. From 1840 the name Lamplbruderschaft was used. The first happy meal takes place in 1852 , for which the Lampl brothers meet every seven years from then on. It was not until the 18th century that the professional organization of river boatmen, salt workers and traders became a civil association with the aim of supporting the entire population of Passau in emergency situations. The new admission into the brotherhood requires the intercession of a Lampl brother who suggests the new member for admission.

In the Upper House Museum, candle sticks, flags, collecting cans, seals and towel labels of the brotherhood are on display.

social commitment

The brotherhood - first as a professional organization and later for all Passau citizens - set itself the goal from the beginning to support needy Passau. Between 2008 and 2013, a total of 133,850 euros were passed on to those in need. The selection of the recipients is based on the specifications of the Passau parishes and the social welfare office.

Lamplbrothers

According to the statutes, the number of members should not exceed 140. Membership is possible for men who have lived or worked in Passau for several years and who have served the common good of Passau's citizens. Membership is not applied for, but proposed to the potential member by the board of directors. Members have a justified right of proposal.
