Carl Sittler

Carl Boromäus Sittler (born July 16, 1882 in Marzoll , † February 22, 1963 in Passau ) was a German local politician. From 1919 to 1933 and in 1945 he was mayor or lord mayor of the city of Passau.

Sittler had a doctorate in law and was a member of the Catholic student associations K.St.V. Ottonia Munich and K.St.V. Rhenania Erlangen. Mayor Carl Sittler, Lieutenant Colonel Erwin Brandl and Major Friedrich Limbacher signed the unconditional surrender in the Hotel Passauer Wolf on May 2, 1945. Passau was handed over to Captain Raymond Coward by the US Army .

Sittler became an honorary citizen of Passau in 1952 and received the Bavarian Order of Merit in 1961 . He died of heart failure on February 22, 1963 at the age of 81.
