Stephan Billinger

Stephan Billinger (also Stefan ; born February 2, 1897 in Oberhaselbach ; † June 30, 1966 in Passau ) was a German politician of the Bavarian Party and from 1948 to 1964 mayor of the city of Passau.

Career

Billinger was born as the son of the farmer couple Martin and Katharina Billinger. After elementary school in Haselbach, he switched to high school in Passau . From 1916 to 1918 he served as a soldier in the First World War in the Association of the Bavarian Infantry Body Regiment. After the end of the war he studied economics and law in Munich and received his doctorate in 1923. rer. pole. He completed a bank apprenticeship and then worked in insurance, industry and labor. In the period after the Second World War he worked as a tax consultant and was the owner of a forms publisher in Passau.

On May 30, 1948 he was elected to the city council in Passau. The committee elected him Mayor on August 23, 1948 with 20 to 8 votes . He was later confirmed three times in direct elections. On his initiative, the European Weeks have taken place in Passau every year since 1952 . During the severe floods in the summer of 1954 and the ice rush in the winter of 1956, he was an active crisis manager. He remained in office until April 30, 1964.

From November 1954 to November 1958, he was also a member of the Bavarian state parliament at the same time as his mayor in Passau .

In the difficult time after World War II, Billinger was able to achieve something special for Passau:

  • New construction of two elementary schools and one vocational school
