Rudolf von Scholtz
Rudolf von Scholtz (born September 22, 1890 in Wiesbaden , † March 10, 1956 in Munich ) was a German writer. After the end of the Second World War, he served briefly as Lord Mayor of the Lower Bavarian city of Passau . From 1947 until his death he was director of Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR).
Career
Scholtz first grew up in St. Petersburg . After graduating from high school in Weimar , he studied philology and philosophy at the universities in Leipzig , Jena and Munich . After the end of the First World War, he worked for a few years as the German Reich's envoy in Stockholm and Helsinki .
In 1926 he joined the service of the German hour broadcasting company in Bavaria in Munich, initially as an editor, later as head of the news department. In 1933 he voluntarily retired to Neuburg am Inn , where he worked as a publishing editor and translator for English-language authors.
After the end of the Second World War, the American control government appointed him on September 13, 1945 as Lord Mayor of the city of Passau. Ten months later he switched to radio station manager at Radio Munich, which at that time was still controlled by the Americans, and was appointed director of Edmund Schechter in 1947 as the successor to Edmund Schechter . After the radio station was reconstituted as Bayerischer Rundfunk , Scholtz was confirmed in his office.
Under his aegis, a second radio wave was set up in 1950 and the BR began to test a television program in 1953, for which a studio was built in the Freimann district of Munich .
