Emil Brichta

Emil Brichta (born September 26, 1915 in Brno ; † June 12, 1997 in Deggendorf ) was a German politician ( CSU ) and Lord Mayor of Passau from 1964 to 1984 . His name is on the town's memorial . He is the namesake of Dr.-Emil-Brichta-Straße.

Professional beginnings

Brichta came from a family of Moravian officials. 1934 Graduated from the German State Real High School in Brno. After studying at the University of Prague, PhD iur. and military service. He then completed the legal preparatory service. He came to Passau in 1951 as a so-called expellee. In 1953 he became a councilor and in 1958 head of the Passau Labor Court.

Political functions

From 1956 to 1990 he was a city ​​councilor ( CSU ). On January 13, 1961, he succeeded Dr. Baptist Ritter von Scheuring was appointed second mayor and was this until June 1962, before he was elected mayor of Passau on March 8, 1964. After three successful re-elections, he left this office on April 30, 1984.

Volunteering

Brichta, who was awarded the honorary citizenship of Passau in 1984 , was significantly involved in both the regional reform (1972), in which he successfully fought for the continuation of Passau's immediate district, and in the founding of the University of Passau (1978). He has also made great contributions to the Passau city ​​partnerships , housing construction, the city ​​theater , the promotion of the European weeks and the settlement of industrial companies. His term of office also included the construction of numerous schools and sports facilities, the expansion of the clinic and the renovation of the Ilz town .

Brichta was chairman of the Association for East Bavarian Local History Research from 1963 to 1984 and then resigned to hand over the post to his deputy Gottfried Schäffer . However, he died a little later, whereupon Brichta ran again as chairman and was re-elected for four years. After his final resignation from the board of directors, he was appointed honorary chairman of the association in 1988.

Emil Brichta died on June 12, 1997 at the age of 81.

On the afternoon of June 12, 2007, Lord Mayor Albert Zankl laid a wreath at Brichta's grave in the Innstadtfriedhof on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of his predecessor's death . In its edition of June 10th, the advertising paper Am Sonntag : In [Brichta's] era, Passau took on its present appearance. The Ilz city renovation was carried out as well as the establishment of the university. He fought for the preservation of the city theater, fought vehemently for the European Weeks, and expanded city partnerships. To this day, the honorary citizen is considered the most outstanding representative of Passau.
