Lindgraben ( Hungarian : Kis-Hársfalva (old Sopron-Hársfalva ), Croatian : Lindgrob ) is a district of the market town of Kobersdorf in Burgenland in the Oberpullendorf district in Austria .
geography
The community is located in the Schwarzenbachtal in Central Burgenland. Districts of the market town are Kobersdorf, Lindgraben and Oberpetersdorf. The place lies at the foot of the Pauliberges , the youngest extinct volcano in Austria. The community is part of the Landseer Berge nature reserve .
history
Before the birth of Christ, the area was part of the Celtic Kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the surroundings of the Celtic hill settlement Burg on the Schwarzenbacher Burgberg . During Roman times (1st – 4th century BC) the area was part of the province of Pannonia ; in the ensuing centuries of migration, a multitude of peoples roamed the area. Germanic tribes, Avars and Slavs, then again German settlers in the Ostmark established under the Frankish emperor Charlemagne, shaped our history.
Lindgraben was founded between 1569 and 1572 under the rule of Hans Csóron , son-in-law of Hans von Weißpriach . There is an original document from the Urbarialgemeinde Kobersdorf from 1572, in which Lindgraben is mentioned for the first time. According to oral tradition, there were many linden trees on today's church square. This tree population explains the first part of the place name. The location in a ditch (valley) led to the second part of the name. This is also evidenced by other sources.
The first settlers in Lindgraben were Germans and Croats. In 1585 the population comprised 19 German and 12 Croatian farming families. In 1702 there was only one Croatian farming family in Lindgraben.
In 1899, after lengthy negotiations between the Catholic and Protestant parishes, Prince Esterhazy bought an inn. In 1900 the school was opened there and lessons in the state language Hungarian began. In 1974 the elementary school was closed. The building later served as a community center with a polling station. The year 1890 is considered to be the founding year of the Lindgraben volunteer fire brigade. The first fire station was built opposite the school around 1928. On June 15, 1936, Lindgraben was entered in the fire service register under BL No. 109. In the war years, women took over the work of fire fighters.
On January 1, 1971, the municipality of Lindgraben and the municipality of Oberpetersdorf were merged with the market town of Kobersdorf. Lindgraben is the smallest district in the new community association (2001 census: district Kobersdorf: 1000 inhabitants, OT Oberpetersdorf: 567 inhabitants, OT Lindgraben: 262 inhabitants).
