Kobersdorf ( Hungarian : Kabold , Croatian : Kobrštof ) is a market town with 1,878 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in Burgenland in the Oberpullendorf district in Austria .

geography

Geographical location

The community is located at the foot of the Pauli Mountain , Austria's youngest extinct volcano , in the Schwarzenbachtal in Central Burgenland .

Parts of the municipality belong to the Landseer Berge nature reserve .

Community structure

The municipality includes the following three localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):

  • Kobersdorf (1080) including Am Waldhof, Buchgraben and Neuberg
  • Lindgraben (209)
  • Oberpetersdorf (589)

The community consists of the cadastral communities Kobersdorf, Lindgraben and Oberpetersdorf.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1971, the previously independent communities of Lindgraben and Oberpetersdorf were merged with Kobersdorf to form the large community of Kobersdorf.

history

Before the birth of Christ, the area was part of the Celtic Kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the surroundings of the Celtic hill settlement Burg on the Schwarzenbacher Burgberg .

Later under the Romans, today's Kobersdorf was then in the province of Pannonia .

Like all of Burgenland, the place belonged to Hungary (German-West Hungary) until 1920/21 . Since 1898 had due to the Magyarization of the government in Budapest of Hungarian name Kabold be used.

After the end of the First World War, after tough negotiations, German-West Hungary was awarded to Austria in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919 and 1920 respectively. The place has belonged to the newly founded federal state of Burgenland since 1921 (see also the history of Burgenland ).

There was a Jewish community in Kobersdorf since 1526 , which was founded by refugees from Ödenburg . Kobersdorf has been one of the seven Jewish communities in Burgenland since the 18th century . In 1828, 746 Jews lived in Kobersdorf, by 1934 their number had fallen to 172. The synagogue , built in 1860, is the only one of the seven communities that has survived and has been used for memorial events since restoration.

Kobersdorf has been a market town since 1463.

Mayor is Klaus Schütz (SPÖ). In 2007 he succeeded Manfred Fuchs (SPÖ). In the direct mayor election in 2017, he again had two competitors, Vice Mayor Martina Pauer (ÖVP) and Werner Schöll (ZDORF), as in 2012. In the first ballot on October 1, 2017, Schütz missed the qualified majority with 47.53%; Pauer achieved 33.18% and Schöll was eliminated with 19.29%. The runoff election on October 29th, Schütz won with 53.71%, Pauer came with 46.29%. Pauer resigned from the local council, which is why in the constituent meeting of the local council Johann Oberhofer (ÖVP) was elected first vice mayor and Andreas Tremmel (SPÖ) was elected second vice mayor.

Patricia Steiner is in charge of the municipal office.

The three gold stars not only refer to the three districts of Kobersdorf, Lindgraben and Oberpetersdorf, which have been united in the Kobersdorf community since January 1, 1971, they also indicate the three dominant denominations (Protestantism, Catholicism and Judaism) in Kobersdorf.
