Uummannaq

Type No. description Construction year date image receipt
Monument protection B-116 The church was built by the architect Helge Bojsen-Møller . It is the largest stone church in Greenland and the material was cut out of the rock on site. 1934 November 2, 1998 Church of Uummannaq.jpg [57]
worth preserving B-2 The building houses the Uummannaq children's home . It was a sanatorium until 1956 and is now also used as a leisure club. 1929 - [58]
B-5 The building is the district doctor's residence. It was built next to what was then the hospital and was probably designed by Peter Anton Cortsen . 1907 - [59]
B-8 The building was erected in 1941 and replaced the old hospital in B-9. The large building has a sun terrace, which is housed in the eastern extension above the morgue, and thus symbolizes the methods of treatment against the tuberculosis epidemic in Greenland in the middle of the 20th century. 1941 - [60]
B-9 The building was erected in 1870 and initially served as the home of the trade assistant. The storey house was converted into a hospital in 1889 and extended to the south in 1929. In 1941 the building was taken out of use. In 1987 it was finally converted into a museum, which it still serves today. 1870 - [61]
B-11 The house of the head of trade from 1909 is a clad half-timbered building that is considered a gem of the half-timbered architecture of that time and was probably made by Peter Anton Cortsen . The pretty gable and ridge decorations are striking . 1909 - [62]
B-12 Residential building 1947 - [63]
B-14 The storey building used to be the home of the commercial administrator. Today it serves as KNI's office building and as a bank. 1871 - [64]
B-15 The half-timbered building was built as a provisions stall and served as a cloth-making shop from 1929. Today the post office is located there. 1853 - [65]
B-16 The cooper workshop is also a half-timbered building from the 1850s. 1852 - [66]
B-17 The half-timbered building, placed on a high plinth, used to serve as the home of the trade assistant and the skipper. 1927 - [67]
B-19A The building used to be used as a potato warehouse. The outer wall consists of quarry stone , among other things, which makes it appear as a peat wall house. 1849 - [68]
B-23 This is an outbuilding of B-29, which was added much later and also served as a shop. 1923 - [69]
B-25 The one-storey building was built in Nuussuaq in the 18th century . The colony in Nuussuaq only existed from 1758 to 1763. The building therefore probably dates from this period. At that time it served as the missionary's apartment. In 1920 it was rebuilt in Uummannaq, initially serving as a coal store and now as a meeting room. around 1760 - [70]
B-28 The building used to function as a bacon house and later as a provisions store. It is comparatively large and the outer walls are covered by a stone wall. Today it is used, among other things, by the post office as a warehouse. 1861 - [71]
B-29 This building is also a typical half-timbered building from the mid-19th century. It initially served as a shop and is now a warehouse. In 1923 the B-23 was added. 1853 - [72]
B-30 The port warehouse consists of two full floors plus an attic. 1930 - [73]
B-33 The small half-timbered building with a pyramid roof used to be the forge and is now used as a storage shed. 1852 - [74]
B-34 Like B-28, the building served as a bacon house and is now a furniture store. Like the B-28, this stilt house is lined with strong stone walls. 1860 - [75]
B-110 The school building is a half-timbered building of one and a half floors, which was expanded in 1952. 1921 - [76]
B-112 Residential building 1948 - [77]
B-117 The building is the priest's apartment and is a half-timbered building. 1894 - [78]
B-300 The building was erected as an annex to the then museum in B-9. Its east wall consists of a thick stone wall. 1904 - [79]
B-803 The building is a small single-family house made of peat walls. Today it serves as a museum building. 1925 - [80]
B-807 Like the nearby B-803, it is a peat wall house, but it was laid out as a two-family house. 1925 - Umanaq3.jpg [81]
area particularly worthy of preservation C01 The area includes almost all of the protected buildings in the city and can be divided into three parts. The southern one consists of the red commercial buildings, the middle one is dominated by the church and also consists of the historic residential houses with front gardens and the small peat wall houses. and the northern part on a slope consists of residential houses. These are made of wood and have probably replaced the earlier peat wall houses. The area shows a striking architectural diversity that has arisen over the different time periods. - - Umanaq2.jpg [82]
