List of natural monuments in the Berchtesgadener Land district

The still incomplete list of natural monuments in the district of Berchtesgadener Land contains the natural monuments of the district of Berchtesgadener Land . According to Section 28 of the Federal Nature Conservation Act, natural monuments are individual creations of nature or areas of up to 5 ha , whose special protection is necessary for scientific, natural history or regional reasons or because of their rarity, individuality or beauty.

In December 2019, there were a total of 58 natural monuments in the area of ​​responsibility of the Berchtesgadener Land district office.

Approx. 400 year old summer linden (Tilia platyphylla) worthy of protection with a trunk circumference of approx. 550 cm and a crown diameter of approx. 15 m. The isolated single tree is surrounded by younger groups of trees. The immediate area around the tree is used as a hay meadow. The tree is about 925 m above sea level. NN and is therefore the highest natural tree monument in the BGL district. Natural monument since 1978.

at the Kleinrückstetten chapel

300-350 years old summer linden tree (Tilia platyphylla) with a trunk circumference of approx. 6 m and a height of approx. 28 m is worth protecting. Far dominant, distinctive single tree that has been designated as a natural monument since 1954.

23 Sea tax 47 ° 39 '59.5 "  N , 13 ° 0" 20.3 "  E Berchtesgaden district: Maria Gern Fl.Nr .: 393 This red spruce (Picea abies) is around 200 years old and is the most impressive tree of its kind in the Berchtesgadener Land. Due to its solitary position, the tree is densely branched far down. Trunk circumference: approx. 430 cm, height 35 m.

24 Hindenburglinde 47 ° 36 '58.9 "  N , 12 ° 53' 3.8"  E Ramsau district: Ramsau Fl.Nr .: 274/2 Before the "Hindenburglinde" (Tilia platyphylla) got its name, there was always talk of the "Great Linden" or "Thousand-year-old Linden". It was only when the municipality of Ramsau was granted honorary citizenship in 1933 that the tree was given its new designation "Hindenburglinde" by means of a municipal council resolution. The linden tree is approx. 600 - 800 years old, has a crown diameter of over 30 m and a trunk circumference of approx. 11 m. The linden is probably the oldest tree in the Berchtesgadener Land.

The approx. 240 - 290 year old pear tree ( Pyrus communis ) has a trunk circumference of approx. 470 cm and a crown diameter of approx. 25 m. The pear tree has been protected as a natural monument since 1979 and with a height of approx. 18 m is the largest tree of its kind known in the area. It blooms profusely every year and bears several hundredweight of tasty medium-sized fruits.

Pedunculate oak (Quercus robur) worth protecting, about 290-340 years old, with a trunk circumference of about 410 cm and a height of about 25 m, it is the largest and oldest tree in the area. Natural monument since 1980.

The tree was designated as a natural monument in 1980. Tree height is approx. 28 m.

Approx. 290 year old yew tree (Taxus baccata) worthy of protection. Shrubby growth with 5 single trunks, the strongest single trunk having a circumference of 140 cm. The crown diameter is approx. 12 m and with a tree height of approx. 9 m it is extremely rare. The tree is in the garden of the former Marienapotheke.

Approx. 240–290 year old sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus) worthy of protection with a trunk circumference of approx. 260 cm. Natural monument since 1981, which is one of the most beautiful examples of the BGL district due to its typical broad pyramidal, spherical crown.

81 Antenberg lime tree 47 ° 37 '48.6 "  N , 13 ° 2' 16.7"  E Berchtesgaden district: Salzberg Fl.Nr. 42 400 - 500 year old summer linden (Tilia platyphylla) with a trunk circumference of about 9 m. Next to Hindenburg-Linde the oldest of its kind in the whole district.

District: Ainring Fl.Nr. 2038/17 station forecourt in Hammerau

The plane tree (Platanus acerifolia) has been a natural monument since 1982. The tree could have been planted on the occasion of the opening of the railway line or the construction of the train station in Hammerau. The age of the tree is around 160 to 180 years.

The three linden trees (Tilia cordata) are the remainder of a group of linden trees that formerly consisted of seven trees. The trees have been designated as a natural monument since 1982, shape the local landscape and form an impressive ensemble with the nearby church building. The southernmost lime tree is approx. 240–290 years old, the middle one approx. 190 - 240 years and the northernmost lime tree approx. 160 years old.

About 230-280 old sycamore maples (Acer pseudoplatanus) are worthy of protection, the largest tree has a trunk circumference of 370 cm. The trees were placed under protection as a natural monument in 1985 due to their outstanding beauty, ecological and cultural-historical significance (relic of a traditional cultural landscape).

Two winter linden trees (Tilia cordata) with a trunk circumference of 460 cm and 530 cm and a height of approx. 35 m stand at a crossroads. The age of the trees is 200-250 years. The linden trees grow at about 560 m above sea level. NN on the uppermost shoulder of the eastern slope. The large trees have been designated as a natural monument since 2011 and, because of their ecological importance, must be protected as a habitat for a fauna that specializes in old linden trees.
