The list of natural monuments in the district of Kitzingen (also the list of natural monuments in the district of Kitzingen ) contains all of the so-called " manifestations of nature " protected by ordinance by the lower nature conservation authority of the Kitzingen district office in the Bavarian administrative district of Lower Franconia . This includes old trees, avenues, drift sand areas, meadows, lakes, as well as parks and gardens of particular importance.

Natural monuments in the Kitzingen district

“A natural monument is a landscape element that is under nature protection .” This is intended to put certain manifestations of nature, such as rock formations or springs , individual trees or avenues , under protection for ecological, scientific, historical or local history reasons. Natural monuments are designated by ordinance in accordance with Article 9 of the Bavarian Nature Conservation Act by the lower nature conservation authorities of the district offices (old version before 2018). They must not be changed, destroyed or removed.

In the district of Kitzingen, during the National Socialist rule in the 1940s, the designation of natural monuments began. Often individual, significant trees were placed under protection. More rarely, points of geological significance have been converted to natural monuments. Today these are mostly recorded as geotopes . Most of the monuments under an area of 2 hectares are too small to be listed as nature reserves .

The existence of natural monuments is also subject to major changes due to the protection of organic objects. Trees are felled or destroyed by lightning. Since the monuments are often still used for agriculture, meadows and water areas in particular are at risk of destruction. With the enlargement of the district area in the course of the municipal reform in Bavaria , the number of natural monuments increased significantly. Most of the monuments can now be found in the area of the city of Iphofen , especially the district of Dornheim.

List of natural monuments

The list is based on a compilation of natural monuments by Andreas Pampuch, which, however, appeared in 1984. Newer monuments were taken from the BayernAtlas . Several monuments have been removed or decommissioned, others have been added. Three natural monuments are now part of a nature reserve. In addition, current changes to the inventory were announced by the lower nature conservation authority through the official gazette of the district of Kitzingen.

In the first column the exact names of the natural monuments are gathered, the list is arranged according to the locations of the monuments. Other names used can be found in the notes as well as the location (according to the description in Pampuch), the protective purposes or meanings of the monument and the date of its protection. The location is indicated by the district, whereby the monuments are partly to be found around districts without their own district. An exact geographic coordinate can be found in the Position column.
