List of surface formations on (243) Ida
The list of geological formations on (243) Ida contains all surface formations on the asteroid (243) Ida , which have been given a proper name by the Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature (WGPSN) of the International Astronomical Union (IAU). The Afon crater was named in 1994, the rest of the names in 1997 after the Galileo space probe , which was on its way to the planet Jupiter , passed by.
crater
Craters on (243) Ida are named after caves .
Dorsa
Dorsa are ridge-like surface structures. Dorsa on (243) Ida are named after scientists who contributed to the study of Ida. So far only one dorsum on Ida has received a proper name:
Surname | Mean diameter (km) | Coordinates + W (0-360) of the center of the dorsum | Named after |
---|---|---|---|
Townsend Dorsum | 40 | 25; 30th | Timothy Townsend, a member of the Galileo team at Arizona State University |
Regiones
