List of mammals in Europe
The list of mammals in Europe contains the species of mammals found in Europe . The Ural Mountains and the Ural River , the Caspian Sea , the Russian border in the Caucasus , the Black Sea and the Bosporus are considered Europe's eastern border . Species found on the Aegean Islands of Greece, Cyprus , Malta , the Canary Islands , Madeira and the Azores are also listed.
For species that occur in six or fewer countries in Europe, these are indicated. Small states are usually not taken into account. Species occurring in Germany, Austria or Switzerland are highlighted in bold. Neozoa introduced after 1492 are marked as such. Pet forms and humans are not taken into account. The taxonomy and distribution mainly follow Grimmberger et al. (2009). The order of the genera and species follows Aulagnier and co-workers (2009).
