Inland |
Woudstra was born the son of a Dutch barge and grew up in Germany. At 18 he joined the SPD . From 1920 to 1928 he was a shop steward and cashier of the inland boatmen's union from Duisburg. He then moved to the Netherlands and joined the Dutch SPD in 1933. From Rotterdam he was active in the resistance against the Nazis and, together with a Rhine boatman, smuggled social democratic pamphlets to Duisburg. He also sent parcels of food and clothing or money to relatives of political prisoners. In 1942 he was tracked down and sentenced. On August 15, 1943, he was executed by guillotine in Berlin-Charlottenburg . The stumbling block for Jaring Woudstra was stolen on the night of August 31, 2014 to September 1, 2014. A new stumbling block was laid in October 2014.
