Max Rath was born in Geldern on March 20, 1884, and his profession is a textile wholesaler. After an involuntary move to Mannheim in 1940 , he was taken to the Gurs internment camp on October 22, 1940 from Baden-Palatinate-Saarland . From there he went - via the Drancy assembly camp - on August 14, 1942 with transport 19, train 901-14 with the prisoner number 104905 to the Auschwitz extermination camp , where he was murdered. Incidentally, Max was a generous patron of VfR Mannheim for many years (including the later national coach Sepp Herberger when he was still a player).

In 1937 they both emigrated to the Netherlands (in 1941 they were registered in Amsterdam , Van Breestraat 76 huis), both were deported to Westerbork transit camp in 1943. Karl Israel died there on July 25, 1943, was cremated on July 28, 1943 and buried in the Jewish cemetery in Diemen (field U, row 10, grave 24).

17th August 2012 Paul Holla was born in Straelen in 1900 , he was a teacher at the vocational school in Geldern. From 1929 to 1933 he was the first social democrat on the Straelen city council. Between 1933 and 1936 Paul was arrested and imprisoned several times.After deportation (lasting one and a half years) to the Esterwegen concentration camp , he returned to Straelen - severely mistreated and blind - where he died on May 8, 1940 as a result of his imprisonment.

December 15, 2011 The synagogue was built in 1874/75 and was located on the north wall. The Jewish school, which has existed since 1850, was housed in an extension. Hilda (Hilde) Heymann was born on January 24th, 1898 in Geldern. After a (probably involuntary) move to Iserlohn in 1939, Hilda was brought from Dortmund to the Zamość ghetto on April 28, 1942 and then deported to the Majdanek concentration camp , where she was murdered.
