Dr. Walter Hirsch was born on September 6th, 1906 in Kempen as the third son of Isidor Hirsch and his wife Johanna Kaufmann . He was a very good student and graduated from high school after only nine years. He studied two semesters at the University of Freiburg and the following seven semesters at the University of Berlin . On October 6, 1931, he was appointed doctor of philosophy and mathematics at the Humboldt University in Berlin , where he had a teaching position . After the seizure of power of the Nazis and the subsequent disbarment he wandered on 31/03/1934 by Italy from where he was a teacher at a school camp in Florence ( boarding worked for children of immigrants). After Hitler and Mussolini became allies , the boarding school was relocated to Nice - to still unoccupied France - but soon it fell into the hands of the Vichy government . Despite great efforts by friends and colleagues from the USA (including Albert Einstein ) to save him and bring him to the USA, he was not given an exit visa to leave France. For several years he went through various camps: Les-Milles De Gurs and finally August 17, 1942 from Drancy to the Auschwitz concentration camp , where he was murdered. | |||

Heinrich Wolff was born on January 3rd, 1887 in Kempen and worked there as an independent master hairdresser . He was with Elisabeth Wolff, geb. Schlünkes (* 03.01.1887, † 01.01.1962 in Kempen) married, their son died in Russia in 1941 . Despite warnings from his fellow citizens, he made no secret of his aversion to National Socialism, he was listed in the files of the police and the NS agencies as an opponent of National Socialism and was arrested twice for it. On 08.08.1944 he was denounced by a (foreign) soldier , arrested and sent to Anrath prison, from where he was transferred to Arnsberg prison . There he died in a bomb attack on February 9, 1945. | |

He had suffered slight brain damage from a forceps delivery , which led to absenteeism for seconds and difficulties in understanding. From December 15th, 1930 to March 31st, 1934 he was housed in the educational and nursing home for the mentally weak St. Josefsheim in Waldniel , through the diagnosis of the family doctor ("... is otherwise not usable for any activity ...") he got in the catches of child euthanasia . Fritz Wingen(real first name Gottfried ) was born in Holpe in 1889 as the eldest son of the teacher Josef Wingen and his wife Berta , the family moved to Kempen in 1908. At first Fritz worked as a teacher in Wickrath , Essen and Neuwerk , but since 1921 only as a freelance artist. As Traudchen's condition worsened (she became aggressive and occasionally physical) she was picked up and taken to the Süchteln state hospital. On June 11, 1941, Traudchen (with 84 other women) was taken to the Galkhausen interim facility and on July 22, 1941 to the Hadamar killing center , where she was murdered on the same day as part of Operation T4 . | |

After moving to Dülken again, she received a passport and was able to leave for Portugal in September 1941 . From Lisbon via Havana , Adele flees with the SS Nyassa to New York , where she dies of liver cancer on March 13, 1943 . | |||

During the German invasion of Poland in September 1939, he was captured as a conscript of the Polish army and brought to Germany in November. Here he was employed as a " foreign worker " in the winter of 1940 on the farm of farmer Hubert Goetzens in St. Hubert, Escheln 5 (today: Escheln 1) . There he became friends with the domestic worker Gertrud B., who at the turn of 1940 / 41 becomes pregnant.
