Emmy Watermann, b. Hirsch was born on November 11th, 1911 as the daughter of Isidor Hirsch and Johanna Kaufmann in Kempen. From about 1934, she was daughter of the house with the family Waterman in Bunde , after the emigration of the family to Winschoten ( Netherlands ) in 1937, she married Hans Waterman (born on 02.28.1906 in Bunde) in Rotterdam . After internment in Westerbork , Emmy, Hans and their son Fred (born on November 17th, 1939 in Winschoten) were deported to Sobibor on March 2nd, 1943 and murdered there on March 5th, 1943.

Ernst Hirsch was born in Kempen in 1904 as the eldest son of Isidor Hirsch and his wife Johanna Kaufmann . The occupation was given as "religion teacher" - other sources report that he worked as an accounting manager in weaving mills in Mönchengladbach and Rheydt . In 1932 he married Margot Jammer in Dortmund . With the help of his cousin Stanley Sharpe (who lives in Australia ) they both managed to escape to Dunedin / New Zealand in September 1938 , where Ernst died on February 17th, 1978.

Isidor Hirsch was born on August 12, 1872 as the son of Marx Hirsch (* 1838 in Polch ) and his wife Emilie, b. Berghoff (* 1833 in Hoerstgen ) born. He married Johanna Kaufmann in 1903 and the marriage had six children: Ernst (* 1904) , Leo (* 1905) , Walter (* 1906) , Martha (* 1908) , Paul (* 1909) and Emmy (* 1911) . Isidor Hirsch was the owner of the butcher's shop on Peterstraße and the associated cattle trade - one of the most capable businessmen in Kempen. During the Reichspogromnacht , his shop and apartment were destroyed and looted by the Kempen police and SA . On July 25, 1942, he and his wife were transported from Düsseldorf with Transport VII / 2 Bp, No. Deported to the Theresienstadt ghetto in 1250 and on September 21, 1942 to the Treblinka extermination camp , where both perished (controversial: The son Paul Hirsch writes in his memoirs that his aunt Johanna and his parents ( Isidor and Johanna ) after reports from the Red Cross and the Tracing Service Arolsen were deported directly to Auschwitz concentration camp ).

Leo Hirsch was born in 1905 as the second son of Isidor Hirsch and his wife Johanna Kaufmann . The profession stated was " master butcher "; he had taken over his parents' butcher's shop in 1934 (with his brother Paul ) . During the devastation as part of the November pogroms he stayed in Krefeld and was able to hide with a friend in Schmalbroich . Leo, Paul and Renate Hirsch can flee via the Netherlands on September 2nd, 1939 with one of the last ferries from Vlissingen to England , where Leo is a partner at Bilham Farms, Ltd. worked in Mersham, Kent, England (near Ashford ). In 1945 he married Margot Silbermann, Leo died in 1974.

Martha Hirsch was born on May 4th, 1905 in Kempen as the eldest daughter of Isidor Hirsch and his wife Johanna Kaufmann . She spent a year at the Higher Web School Crefeld (a forerunner of the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences ), then worked - with her friend Erna Servos - in the Jewish children's home in Cologne . On March 18th, 1939 she married Joe Horn from Vorst , with whom she was able to emigrate to Dunedin / New Zealand in 1939 . Martha died on October 18, 2005 in Auckland .

He was arrested as part of the November pogroms , and on September 2nd, 1939, he was able to flee via the Netherlands with his brother Paul and his wife Renate on one of the last ferries from Vlissingen to England . There Paul (again) built a farm with his brother Leo , later he went to Seattle in the USA , where he died on October 22, 2005.

Dr. Walter Hirsch was born on September 6th, 1906 in Kempen as the third son of Isidor Hirsch and his wife Johanna Kaufmann . He was a very good student and graduated from high school after only nine years. He studied two semesters at the University of Freiburg and the following seven semesters at the University of Berlin . On October 6, 1931, he was appointed doctor of philosophy and mathematics at the Humboldt University in Berlin , where he had a teaching position . After the seizure of power of the Nazis and the subsequent disbarment he wandered on 31/03/1934 by Italy from where he was a teacher at a school camp in Florence ( boarding worked for children of immigrants). After Hitler and Mussolini became allies , the boarding school was relocated to Nice - to still unoccupied France - but soon it fell into the hands of the Vichy government . Despite great efforts by friends and colleagues from the USA (including Albert Einstein ) to save him and bring him to the USA, he was not given an exit visa to leave France. For several years he went through various camps: Les-Milles De Gurs and finally August 17, 1942 from Drancy to the Auschwitz concentration camp , where he was murdered.

Heinrich Wolff was born on January 3rd, 1887 in Kempen and worked there as an independent master hairdresser . He was with Elisabeth Wolff, geb. Schlünkes (* 03.01.1887, † 01.01.1962 in Kempen) married, their son died in Russia in 1941 . Despite warnings from his fellow citizens, he made no secret of his aversion to National Socialism, he was listed in the files of the police and the NS agencies as an opponent of National Socialism and was arrested twice for it. On 08.08.1944 he was denounced by a (foreign) soldier , arrested and sent to Anrath prison, from where he was transferred to Arnsberg prison . There he died in a bomb attack on February 9, 1945.

Josef Voss was born on July 9th, 1920 as the son of the painter Johannes Voss and his wife Agnes Voss, b. Heinen was born in Kempen. He had suffered slight brain damage from a forceps delivery , which led to absenteeism for seconds and difficulties in understanding. From December 15th, 1930 to March 31st, 1934 he was housed in the educational and nursing home for the mentally weak St. Josefsheim in Waldniel , through the diagnosis of the family doctor ("... is otherwise not usable for any activity ...") he got in the catches of child euthanasia . On May 9th, 1941 he was transported to the sanatorium Andernach and from there on to Hadamar on June 20th, 1941 . There he was murdered in the gas chamber .

Until December 22nd, 1938 he was in " protective custody " in the Dachau concentration camp . He was deported from Düsseldorf on December 11, 1941 to the Riga ghetto and murdered there on January 16, 1942.

Kurt Mendel was born on September 27, 1922 in Kempen as the son of Andreas and Paula Mendel . He was deported from Düsseldorf on December 11, 1941 to the Riga ghetto . When the Riga ghetto was dissolved on November 6, 1943 , he was sent to the labor camp of the Army Clothing Office (ABA) in Mühlgraben near Riga. On September 27, 1944 he was transferred to the Stutthof camp near Danzig and in early 1945 he was evacuated to the Theresienstadt ghetto , where he was liberated by the Americans. Kurt returns to Kempen in October, where he dies on September 1st, 2007.

Lieselotte (called Liesel) Mendel was born on May 16, 1924 as the daughter of Andreas and Paula Mendel . In 1939 the parents succeeded in getting their daughter on the way to Holland in a child collection transport, where she helps with relatives in the household. After the occupation of the Netherlands, she was first taken to the Westerbork concentration camp. From there she is said to have been deported to Auschwitz on July 15, 1942 and perished there on September 30, 1942.

She was deported from Düsseldorf on December 11, 1941 to the Riga ghetto . After the death of her husband she is the Stutthof concentration camp transported to where it arrives at 01.10.1944, here Paula dies early 1945 on famine fever .

Andreas (called Adolph or Adolf) Lambertz was born on May 12th, 1861 and worked as a master butcher and cattle dealer. He was brought to the so-called "Judenhaus" at Josefstrasse 7 (today: Heilig-Geist-Strasse). These cramped Jewish residential communities were a different form of the ghetto and a preparation for deportation. Andreas died here on March 7th, 1942 - unfortunately, more is not known.
